Breaking up with Jesus

This post brings up a very interesting aspect to the way Evangelicals think about salvation and what it means to follow Jesus. In too much of the Evangelical world, the idea of being a Christian turns Jesus into a ghostly therapist of sorts. Even weirder, there is almost a romantic aspect or at least a super-hero aspect to this notion of “relationship.” Jesus becomes almost this internalized super-friend we can “talk” to, have console us, and who seems to be at our beck and call. The writer brings out some interesting ways to counter this sort of dysfunctional way of thinking about being a follower of Christ.
