    The author very much elides the central question of doctrine. The whole point of atheism is that religion/theism, however finely evolved it is to serve human needs, isn't true in its central propositions. The question it raises is then whether those needs can be effectively served without a load of untruths, however intutitive, “veridical”, and decked out in sophistry.

    Are we such pathetic beings that we have to lie to ourselves just to get through the day and face reality? I say no.
